June 27, 2014 - Meet Karen, and her 18 month old Pit Bull pup, Barnaby. (Pictured from left to right, Dad, Karen, Barnaby and Grandmom)
Karen suspected that Barnaby had allergies, the insides of his ears are red, he shakes his head back and forth incessantly, and he licks and chews his paws. Her biggest concern was that Barnaby might lose his hearing.
Barnaby was also a few months over due for his yearly immunizations and testing for lyme and heartworm.
Karen, due to two major health challenges in the past year, was unable to work and to provide veterinary care to Barnaby, so she reached out to Sam's Hope for help for their beloved family member.
Barnaby was not enthused about the car ride, he knew very well where he was heading. Not too long after his arrival at the vet's office, he settled in and posed for photos. Yes, he is quite the poser, and such a sweetheart!
Barnaby took his shots and blood tests well, and didn't even complain about having his nails clipped. His lyme and heartworm tests came back negative.
He was given an otic oinment for his ear infections, which should have things cleared up in a week to 10 days. Examination of his paws revealed no redness or sores.
Doc suspects the problem may be seasonal, and due to the pollen.
After a few more photos, for which he happily struck a pose, Barnaby was happily heading out the door with his family, anxious to get far away from the vet's office and back to his home.
July 8, 2014 - Today we dropped off a bag of limited ingredient Lamb and Brown Rice food for Barnaby, hopefully the change of diet will help with his allergies.
July 10, 2014 - Barnaby's ears are getting better, but he isn't there yet. We refilled his prescription, hopefully the second time is the charm!
July 16, 2014 - Barnaby's mom sent us an email update this morning; she said that Barnaby's ears are better, his lips are no longer a bright pink, his paw pads have returned to their normal color, and that his has adapted well to his new food.
