March 22, 2014 - Meet Regina, a senior on a fixed income, and her recently adopted kitty, Missy.
Regina was having difficulty providing food for Missy, let alone veterinary care. Sam's Hope awarded a grant to Missy for her overdue annual exam, immunizations and nail clipping.
The past six months have been a very difficult time for Regina and Missy. In September 2013, Missy's original owner, Patsy, passed away; Missy lost her mom and Regina lost her sister and best friend.
All too often, when an pet owner passes away, the pet is surrendered to a shelter, where it faces a very uncertain future.
But good fortune smiled down on Missy, and Regina opened both her heart and home to the orphaned kitty.
Missy had a very difficult time adjusting to her new mom and home, even though she knew Regina very well, (Patsy and Regina had dinner together every evening). Missy spent the first few months hiding and crying during the night. Regina is convinced that Missy was crying for her mom, Patsy.
After months of gentle coaxing, love and patience, Regina's charm finally won Missy over; she now allows her new mom to hold her, and sleeps beside her in bed.
