Jake's Mitzvah Project
October 2022
My name is Jake Bertin; I am a 7th grader that loves to play sports, especially soccer and football, as well as to spend time with my family, friends, and my dog, Ellie.
I have always been an animal lover, and getting Ellie when I was 4 years old was the best thing to ever happen to me. She brings so much love and happiness to our family, I could not imagine my life without her.
When I learned about Sam’s Hope and how their mission is to keep financially challenged people and their pets together, I thought it would be perfect for my Bar Mitzvah project. It made me so sad to think that some people have to give up their pets if they can’t afford to take care of them, so I wanted to help in any way that I could to keep their pets out of shelters and in their homes where they belong.
I really enjoyed volunteering my time by helping to package food for the Meals for the Pets of the Homebound and Elderly program.
I also held a pet food donation drive at my synagogue. It felt really good to be able to help keep people and their pets together. It was a lot of fun working with Marianne, and I plan to continue helping out this amazing organization whenever I can!
Not only did Jake (with his mom, Sarah) volunteer for 2 days, he held a pet food drive and collected funds to support Sam's Hope's programs!
He collected:
- $567.00 in cash donations
- 34 lbs. of pet food and treats
Thank you Jake, for Helping Keep Pets and Their People TOGETHER!
