Sam's Hope Meals for the Pets of the Homebound & Elderly Program

Sam's Hope "Full Bowl" Pet Food ProgramSam's Hope provides home-delivered pet food and supplies to pets of the homebound and elderly in Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties via in-home support programs, home-delivered meals programs and directly to pet owners in need.

Studies have demonstrated that pet ownership can benefit the elderly in so many ways; they are less likely to suffer from depression and loneliness, have lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides, and increased opportunity for exercise, activities and socialization.

Pet Food and Veterinary Care Asistance Grant Recipient, LucyCaring for a pet gives a sense of purpose; a reason to get up in the morning, and can help combat depression, one of the most common problems the elderly face today.

All too often, low-income elderly are forced to make a difficult choice, providing for their own basic needs or the needs of their beloved pet.

They will share their food with a pet, compromising their nutrition, and forgo needed medication to provide for their pet, compromising their health and well-being.

Eventually, when the pet becomes too much of a burden on their well-being and meager finances, the pet is surrendered to a shelter where he/she faces a very uncertain future.

The goal of this program is goal is to reduce the surrender of pets due to the owner’s financial inability to provide care for the pet.
